EMDR/Somatic EMDR

What is EMDR Therapy?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured, evidence-based therapy designed to help people process and heal from traumatic experiences and distressing memories. During EMDR sessions, the therapist guides you through recalling difficult memories while engaging in bilateral stimulation, such as side-to-side eye movements or tapping. This process helps the brain reprocess emotional experiences in a healthier way, reducing their emotional impact and allowing for lasting healing. EMDR is commonly used to treat PTSD, anxiety, depression, and other trauma-related conditions.

What Is Somatic EMDR?

Somatic EMDR is a body-centered approach to healing trauma that combines traditional EMDR therapy with somatic (body-based) awareness. While EMDR uses guided eye movements or other bilateral stimulation to help the brain process difficult memories, the somatic element brings attention to physical sensations—helping release trauma that’s held in both the mind and body. This gentle, integrative method supports deeper emotional healing, nervous system regulation, and a stronger connection to the present moments.
